About
My name is Racheli Ben Eliyahu - ROLACHÈ is my nickname.
Graduated with a BFA from the Jewelry department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
My specialization is in handmade design and Veg-Tan leather works combined with metals.
Through objects and watches, I create by hand; I reveal the inner depth hidden within the material, behind reality, and in creation – which is the artist's main role according to Judaism.
My works examine the relationship between objects and their representation. The objects appear as their definition, but a new space is revealed in them in which their essence, role, and existence are deceptive. What is the meaning of an object that doesn't fulfill its purpose? Changing the original intent of objects reveals their other unexpected meaning, revealing a hidden facet of reality.
I use vegetable-tanned leather and metals; the materials chosen in one balance relative to the other to create a sense of "above time" objects. The relationship between man-time and object is evident in my works, such as materiality and craft. The colors are Mostly monochromatic, in shades of skin and black.
My work process usually starts with the material, and the idea behind the work takes shape following the making process and the precision of the form.
